I was born with horses. I am a 2nd gen horsewoman that gleaned the love for horses from my mom. She barrel raced competitively and bred horses for the track. It runs in my veins. The relationship with the horse is natural, the bond is real, and its been a gift. Early on in 4H as the boxes of ribbons and trophies amassed, I knew it was what I was designed to do. The ribbons didn’t call, the freedom of the horse did. From attending college to pursue a degree in equine studies to training and showing for some of the top professionals in the Tennessee Walker, Saddlebred, and AQHA industries, my appreciation for the horse has grown tremendously. In 1998 a great man, Bill Tyznik, challenged me to learn the inside of the horse. Equine nutrition and fueling the equine athlete became my passion. Soon after, finding an alternative way to restore the systems and fuel the horse as nature intended became my focus…and Cowgirl by Nature was born. I’ve returned to my roots of barrel racing, and now am fortunate enough to share my love for horses and experience it with my children who are avid horsewomen in the making. Every minute in the saddle with them is precious, and now THEY have become a reason “why I ride”. One has won buckles and world championship berths in barrel racing and strives to ride English, dressage, and jump. The other smaller version is riding just as hard and fast! They’re naturals, and they amaze me every day. They remind me of myself, only better, and “together WE ride for the sheer love of the horse”. There is a freedom found on a horse, and sharing that passion as a family is priceless.
